Patti Phillips had a great time catching up with Beth Goetz, the chief operating officer at the University of Connecticut. Beth was a standout soccer student-athlete at Brevard College and Clemson, and when she was just 23 years old, she was named the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis—the youngest ever in school history! She spent more than 10 years coaching, and then became so intrigued by athletics’ bigger picture, that she pivoted entirely to administration in 2008.

Beth’s ability to transition from a successful head coach to a high-level athletic administrator at Butler, the University of Minnesota, and UCONN is a jump that many coaches are interested in, and one Beth navigated perfectly. She shares many professional insights on her way to becoming chief operating officer, including how she’s worked with not one, not two, but three Olympic coaches!
