Kansas State Athletics Student-Athlete Services welcomes applications for one graduate assistantship position for the 2019-20 academic year in Student-Athlete Development.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Graduate Assistant in Student-Athlete Development will gain valuable experience in leadership development, career and personal development, as well as SAAC and assisting with various events. GA for Student-Athlete Development will assist with planning, communicating and executing all programming and events. Main responsibilities include but are not limited to: assist with management of career development programing including Career Cats, Career Cat Luncheon, and individual resume meetings. Assist in personal development programs such as Leadership Academy, P.A.L.S., Global Cats, and Women Leaders in K-State Athletics. Assist with K-State SAAC, as well as, the planning and execution of community services events and Powercat Choice Awards. The Student-Athlete Development GA will also assist with the planning and execution of department-wide diversity and inclusion programing, trainings and events. GA staff members will also participate in weekly professional development meetings in order to expand knowledge and connect with all SAS staff. Some night and weekend hours may be required.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Ability to adhere to NCAA and Big 12 rules. Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, strong leadership capabilities, the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes, and a desire to obtain full-time employment in the Student-Athlete Services profession. Experience in student-athlete services / athletics academic services preferred.
Other Requirements: Applicants selected for the position must apply and be admitted into the K-State Graduate School. Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate school hours in the fall and spring semesters. Tuition is not covered by the annual stipend; however, out-of-state applicants are eligible to receive in-state tuition rates.
$10 per hour (approximately $15,600 yearly estimate) in the first year; potential to earn $12.50 (approximately $19,500 yearly estimate) after completion of first year with successful review paid biweekly (26 pay periods) with medical insurance available. K-State Student-Athlete Services has a solid tradition of placing its Graduate Assistant Counselors into full-time positions within Division 1 student-athlete academic services departments.
