Job Description 
Position: Assistant Softball Coach
New Jersey City University, a NCAA Division III member and member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, located in Jersey City, NJ, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Softball Coach. The successful candidate will be the program’s No. 1 assistant coach.
This is a part-time position that reports directly to the Head Softball Coach and is available for Fall 2019 season. This candidate will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a new foundation within the NJCU softball program.
The successful candidate will assist the head coach in all aspects of the organization, administration and coaching of the softball program and should have a clear and defined philosophy of coaching and instructing softball. The assistant coach will be responsible but not limited to providing assistance in leadership and support for recruitment, retention, practice and individual skill development, game day preparation, scouting and film management, academic success (study hall), student- athlete development, program retention, fundraising & alumni management.
Previous college or high school head or assistant coaching experience or demonstrated success as a pitching instructor and a bachelor’s degree are preferred. A driver’s license and clean DMV record is mandatory.
The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
Recruitment
Assist the Head Coach in the following areas:
•       Develop a strategic and well thought out on and off-campus recruitment program
•       Ensure a full and competitive roster
•       Visit high school, professional and community organizations when requested
•       Develop strong recruiting pipelines with top high schools/ junior college programs
•       Implement an annual evaluation and assessment of the recruiting/retention program
•       Scouting and film management
 
Student-Athlete Experience
Assist the Head Coach in the following areas:
•       Design, monitor and support student-athlete’s personal development programs and progress with respect to their academic, athletic, and personal enrichment
•       Adhere to regulations as outlined in the Student-Athlete Success Program
•       Develop and maintain a strong team culture
•       Implement team activities
•       Ensure (2) two student-athletes serves as the team’s liaisons in SAAC
•       Monitoring the academic success of both programs, including study hall sessions
•       Practice and individual skill development, technical and tactical aspects of player development, strength and instruction
•       Game day preparation
The candidate must comply with NJCU, NJAC and NCAA rules and regulations.
Encouraging academic and athletic excellence and adherence to all rules and regulations set forth by New Jersey City University, the NCAA, and the New Jersey Athletic Conference is required. Commitment to fostering and investing in the growth of the holistic experience of the NJCU student-athlete will be paramount in this role.
