Women Leaders in College Sports Scholarships


Women Leaders in College Sports is fortunate and thankful for supporters who help us continue to provide educational and professional development opportunities for women in intercollegiate athletics. Contributions made to the Women Leaders in College Sports Foundation Fund provide non-members with financial assistance to the Women's Leadership Symposium, Institutes for Administrative Advancement, Leadership Enhancement Institute, Executive Institutes, and National Convention. 

In 2020, a total of 99 Women Leaders in College Sports scholarships were awarded. 

Summer Institute Scholarship Opportunities

Women's Leadership Symposium (WLS)

Scholarships for the NCAA/Women Leaders in College Sports Women's Leadership Symposium are awarded to current Women Leaders in College Sports members who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants must complete an application form, which includes submission of a brief essay (250 words or less).

Scholarship includes: registration, curriculum materials, career advancement resources and more! ($75 value).
 

Institute for Administrative Advancement (IAA)

Scholarships for the NCAA/Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement are awarded to current Women Leaders in College Sports members who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants must complete an application form, which includes submission of a brief essay (250 words or less).

Scholarship includes: registration, curriculum materials, mentor match, access to the virtual institute community, and more! ($250 value)
 

Brenda Weare Scholarship for Leadership Enhancement Institute (LEI) *Available in 2022

The Brenda Weare Scholarship will be awarded to a current Women Leaders in College Sports members in need of  financial assistance and who demonstrates one or more of the qualities of Brenda Weare: courage, fearlessness, a strong work ethic, conviction, integrity, perseverance, sincerity, vision, and outstanding leadership.
 
Scholarship includes: registration, meals, lodging, curriculum materials to LEI ($750 value); and a registration fee waiver to the National Convention ($450 value)

Women Leaders Membership Scholarship Opportunities

Stronger Together Membership Scholarships

Stronger Together membership scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are unemployed, furloughed and/or demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants must complete an application form that addresses how a Women Leaders membership will contribute to their professional growth. Scholarships will be awarded on a monthly basis outside of the months of July and August due to scholarships offered during convention.

Scholarship includes: a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership ($200 value).

Women Leaders General Membership Scholarships

Women Leaders in College Sports membership scholarships will be awarded to non-members who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Applicants must complete an application form, which includes submission of a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how a Women Leaders membership will contribute to her professional growth. Twenty women will be selected for 2020.

Scholarship includes: a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership inclusive of a base level access for the 2020 National Convention – Women Leaders X ($200 value).

Women of Color Membership Scholarships

In collaboration with the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) , Women Leaders in College Sports will offer membership scholarships to minority women in athletics administration who demonstrate a need for financial assistance and are not current members of Women Leaders in College Sports. 

Applicants must complete an online application form, which includes submission of a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how a Women Leaders membership will contribute to her professional growth. This year, thirty women will be selected with preference given to current MOAA members. 

Scholarship opportunities are a part of the Women of Color Initiative, which addresses the needs and barriers women of color experience in relation to access, advancement and retention in collegiate athletics. We invite you to learn more as we strive to increase the exposure of women of color broadly across the industry, raise awareness of the barriers women of color experience and assist in building more inclusive communities of excellence.   

Scholarship includes: one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership inclusive of base level access for the 2020 National Convention - Women Leaders X ($200 value).

Women Leaders HBCU Institutional Membership Scholarships
As part of the Women Leaders in College Sports Women of Color Initiative, we are offering two institutional membership scholarships, which includes up to six individual memberships for women employed at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and/or HBCU intercollegiate athletic conferences. All women must be part of the same organization in order to qualify. 

Women Leaders in College Sports HBCU scholarships will be awarded to an HBCU’s department of athletics and/or intercollegiate athletic conference, that demonstrate a need for financial assistance and a commitment to intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete; support advancing and advocating for diversity within college athletics. For consideration, applicants must complete an application form, which includes a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how they plan to utilize the Women Leaders institutional membership and engage their staff. 

Scholarship includes:
a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports institutional membership which includes up to six individual members, and base level access for each person for the 2020 National Convention - Women Leaders X (up to $1,050 value) and 15+ leadership offerings for you and your team.  

The Scott, Dallas, and Mia Pioli Family Endowed HBCU Membership Scholarships

The "Scott, Dallas and Mia Pioli Family Endowed HBCU Scholarship" was instated in 2019. As part of the Women Leaders Women of Color Initiative, the "Scott, Dallas and Mia Pioli Family HBCU Membership Scholarship" will be awarded to six non-members this year. This membership scholarship will be awarded to women currently working in athletics at an HBCU or who graduated from an HBCU.

The recipient of this scholarship must demonstrate a commitment to intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete; support advancing and advocating for diversity within college athletics; and have a need for financial assistance. For consideration, applicants must complete an application form, which includes a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how a Women Leaders membership will contribute to her professional growth..

Scholarship includes: a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership inclusive of base level access per person for the 2020 National Convention – Women Leaders X ($200 value).

The Chris Voelz "Cha-Ching" Fundraising Membership Scholarship

This membership scholarship, honoring the legacy and work of Chris Voelz, will be presented to a non-member currently working in intercollegiate athletics development, in any division, with the intention of advancing her career within the fundraising and development arena. A Women Leaders in College Sports Past President, former board member, persuasive auctioneer, and extremely successful fundraiser during her tenure at the University of Minnesota, Voelz currently serves the industry as the Executive Director of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards—the most prestigious national collegiate sports awards program for women—and consults as a leadership gifts officer at the Women’s Sports Foundation. Candidates should demonstrate the qualities of Chris Voelz: dedication to intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete, fearlessness, tenacity, integrity, and a "no doesn't always mean no" attitude in the realm of fundraising.

Applicants must complete a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how they demonstrate the qualities of Chris Voelz. One woman will be selected this year.

Scholarship includes: a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership inclusive of base level access for the 2020 National Convention – Women Leaders X ($200 value).

The Judy Sweet Membership Scholarship

This scholarship, honoring the legacy and work of Judy Sweet will be presented to a Women Leaders in College Sports member currently working in intercollegiate athletics, in any division, with a staunch commitment to gender equity and Title IX. A Women Leaders in College Sports Past President, previous board member, former NCAA president, and long-time director of athletics at the University of California, San Diego, Sweet has worked tirelessly to defend Title IX and promote diversity issues. Candidates should demonstrate the qualities of Judy Sweet - dedication to intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete, a passion for gender equity, and a persevering attitude.

Applicants must complete a brief essay (500 words or less) that addresses how they demonstrate the qualities of Judy Sweet. One woman will be selected this year.  

Scholarship includes: a one-year Women Leaders in College Sports membership inclusive of base level access for the 2020 National Convention – Women Leaders X ($200 value).
