Beth Sigman Somerset (she/her/hers)
Director of Strategic Communications & Brand Management
Beth Sigman Somerset joined the Women Leaders team in May 2021 and is responsible for overseeing the creation and implementation of comprehensive communication and brand strategies throughout the organization and across platforms.
Before coming to Women Leaders, Somerset spent almost two decades dividing her time between two careers, one in collegiate coaching and another in nonprofit marketing communications. She started out in communications and alumni relations in independent schools but was called to coaching by her passions for athletics and wellness. From 2006 to 2018, she coached cross country and track as an assistant coach at Smith, Amherst, and Keene State colleges and head coach at Mount Holyoke College, and at the youth level at Loomis Chaffee School (CT), Dublin School (NH), and The Well School (NH). A graduate of the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy (now WeCoach), Somerset’s runners earned regional and national accolades, including individual and team NCAA DIII national qualifications and All-American honors.
While coaching, Somerset returned to communications work in 2010, holding positions at the Williston Northampton School (MA) and The Mountain School (VT). She made a shift to focusing on communications work in 2019 as Director of Marketing & Communications at Cushing Academy (MA). While at Cushing, Somerset facilitated a brand refresh and communications audit that included construction of a new website, redevelopment of the institution’s social media content strategy, and organization of short- and long-term communications planning.
Somerset earned her Bachelor's degree in public health at Wellesley College, where she competed in cross country and track and served as a team co-captain. She earned a Master of Science in Exercise & Sport Studies from Smith College in 2008 and a certificate in Marketing Strategy from Cornell University in 2019. When she's not working, she spends time outside with family and friends and enjoys running, biking, swimming, hiking, and baking, as well as volunteering for and attending an Appalachian Mountain Club family camp in New Hampshire.
