Call for Inspired Ideas

The 2017 Women Leaders National Convention will be held October 8-10 in Dallas, Texas. We invite you to share your inspired ideas involving the state of intercollegiate athletics, industry trends, women’s leadership, empowerment, and professional development and advancement. What do you want to learn and experience this year? What do you see on the horizon for college athletics? Who would you like to see on stage? From an educational programming standpoint, how can we make your Rally experience the best yet?

Be creative, be original, be inspirational… and help us empower, develop, and advance the success of the women leaders in college sports!

We strive to ensure our speaker line-up represents our membership community and those in attendance. Topics should appeal to all attendees, including representatives from all NCAA Divisions I, II, III; NAIA; NJCAA, and conference offices, and fall into one of these categories, or similar:

  • Career Advancement
  • Contract Negotiation
  • External Operations
  • Facilities
  • Fundraising
  • Internal Operations
  • Leadership Development
  • Marketing
  • Personal Development (personal branding, networking, etc.)
  • Personnel/Staffing (e.g. hiring/firing)
  • Social Media
  • Technology

Session Types

If you're submitting a topic or session, your idea should fit into one of these session styles:

Breakout Session: A combination of formal presentation and audience interaction. Includes approximately 25% of convention attendees. The presenter(s) should be prepared to give a formal presentation on a specific subject that will generate a discussion and/or questions. Topics should focus on tangible skills that participants can learn from or subject matter that will be useful in the course of their work. The session is one hour. PowerPoints are allowed, but we strongly encourage interactive sessions that promote thought-provoking dialogue.

TED-Style Session (TEDx Women Leaders): Inspired by the movement and global impact of TED talks, TEDx Women Leaders talks are 15 minute presentations. These short talks are designed to ignite inspiration, spark connection and generate new ideas. With the condensed time format, presenters are expected to deliver a clear, concise message. PowerPoints are allowed.

Innovative Industry Discussion: Very interactive and dialogue driven. Presenter(s) are expected to make a short, informal presentation on a specific topic, then engage attendees in conversation. This session should focus on attendee engagement and learning; that being said, the presenter is still responsible for educating participants and we ask that each presenter prepare 10 take-away tips highlighting important topic points allowing attendees to leave with solid takeaways. The session duration is thirty minutes and will be presented twice. No PowerPoint presentations will be accepted; takeaway handouts or other aids brought by the presenter(s) will be provided electronically to attendees post-convention.

Other Notes

Proposals must be submitted by a Women Leaders in College Sports member. If you are not a member, please indicate clearly how the presentation directly benefits the Women Leaders membership, and reference a member(s) who can fully support your proposal. By submitting a proposal, you are agreeing to adhere to all posted dates and deadlines. All accepted presentations may be recorded for future use by Women Leaders in College Sports. Upon selection, Women Leaders may slightly modify the session title and/or description to align with other marketing and promotional materials for the Rally.

Registration & Travel Information: All presenters are responsible for their own registration and travel. In most cases, the institution or organization the presenter is affiliated with will support the mission of Women Leaders in College Sports by covering the cost of travel, and together we can work to provide outstanding professional development opportunities to promote the growth of women leaders.

Selection Process

All submissions are due by Friday, May 12, 2017. You will receive an automatic email confirmation of your submission. Keep this confirmation for your records. Submissions will be reviewed by a volunteer programming committee and staff. You will be notified of the status of your proposal by Friday, June 30, 2017.
